“That’s great to hear, Derrick, for a minute there, I
thought you were going to say we were doomed,” Victoria joked. “How do you
propose we fight a demon that feeds off magic?”
“And therein lies the crux,” Derrick replied.
“Kron has been consuming the life forces of our residents.
He has made it nearly impossible to sustain any kind of living without the
constant threat of war. Our combined magics have not been able to drive him out
and at this point, he’s become immune to our spells and enchantments. But you,
you’re not of this world. We are hoping, desperately, that somehow your magic
can defeat him,” Callon said.
“I don’t know how successful I’ll be, Callon, but I’m
willing to try. Where can we find him?”
“He’s taken up residence near Serenity Falls. It’s the large waterfall near the center of Niellon.”
“Of course,” Callon said. “I’ll have Numa, my advisor and
loyal assistant, show you to one of our guest quarters.”
Victoria, Derrick, Mike and Aria were led to a large suite
with a sitting room. Immediately, Victoria called for her grimoire. “Whoa!” Aria
gasped, watching the large book appear on the desk in front of her. “That will
definitely take some getting used to.”
Victoria smiled, and nodded toward the old tome. “This is
one of my family’s spellbooks. It’s basically a compendium of the supernatural.
I’m hoping to find as much as I can about the chaos demon.” Taking a seat, she
began studying over the sought after section.
Three hours of research later, Victoria sighed and slammed
the book shut. “That’s it then?” Mike asked.
“I’m not sure, but I was thinking, what if, instead of fighting Kron head-on, we try and undo what he’s done?”
“The fairytales,” she paused, shaking her head as she used a
term Ziggy said was unpopular in their realm. “The residents of Hollow Glen, we
know their stories and how they should be. What if we work to correct
them instead? Restore order to the chaos.”
“Would that work?” Mike asked, following through Victoria’s
idea.
“I, honestly, have no idea. Without knowing the cause behind
the change in their behavior, I can’t say with any certainty that this plan
will work or be a permanent solution.”
“But it’s worth a try,” Derrick replied. “At least until we
can figure out a way to get rid of Kron altogether.”
There was a knock on the door before it opened and Ziggy,
Numa re-entered with an army of elves carrying various trays of food. “We
brought some refreshments,” Numa said, placing a tray of colorful foods on the
table in the sitting room.
“Thank you,” Aria said, grabbing herself a bite to eat. “I’m
starved. We haven’t eaten since before the tour.” Mike and Victoria also plated
a snack, enjoying the sweet pastry. “Mmm, oh my that’s delicious!”
“Very! What is this?” Victoria asked, taking another bite of the strange cuisine.
“Have you made any progress,” Ziggy asked.
“Actually, I think we may have figured out a way of restoring
your friends, but I’ll need your help,” Victoria replied.
“We would love to help you, but, unfortunately, our powers
were nearly exhausted summoning you here. We need time to recharge that magical
energy,” Ziggy sighed in frustration.
“That’s ok. I may know a way of doing it without the
use of magic. If I’m right, it’ll take everyone’s help to get things back on
track in Hollow Glen.”
“Then count us in. I’ll rally my fellow pixies right away.
Where would you like to begin?”
“On the way in, we saw Little Red and her grandmother. I think we should start there. It seems smaller than some of the others and I’d like to test our theory,” Victoria answered.
“Whoa!” Mike exclaimed, hearing the story seemed to
transform the thirtysomething seasoned detective into a doe-eyed little boy.
“That is so cool! Are they—is he here?”
“King Arthur?” Ziggy asked. “No, sorry.”
“Ah,” Mike groaned his disappointment.
“They reside in Avalon,” Ziggy continued.
“Wait a second, what? They—wha—where is Avalon?”
“Oh, it’s impossible getting to Avalon. Unless, of course,
you’re a descendant of an Arthurian resident. The portal to Avalon can only be
accessed through a blood connection.”
“Sorry, Mike,” Victoria said, gently patting her friend’s
arm.
“Yeah well, it’s still pretty awesome it’s an actual place.”
Victoria and Derrick exchanged glances. “Do you think he and
Kron are working together?” Victoria inquired.
“Oh no chance,” Ziggy answered confidently. “Aristo is a
protector of white magic. He would never consort with anything dark. Everyone
just assumed he’d taken off on a quest to find an answer to our Kron dilemma.
He does so often.”
“So, it’s not out of the question for him to just take off
on a whim?” Derrick continued.
“Not at all. He’s a bit of a wanderer. He’s really only been
back home for a few years; if he even calls this home. Before that, he lived
with the druids in the Silvermist Forest. But he and Callon have known each
other for centuries.”
“What are you doing? Give that back,” she yelled, trying to grab
the shovel away from him. “Hurry before she…”
Before the grandmother could finish her sentence, a loud
rumble sounded behind Derrick. He turned in time to see Little Red transform
into a large, hairy wolf. With astonishing speed and a show of strength, Little Red
tackled Derrick to the ground.
“DERRICK!” Victoria shouted as the two rolled down a hill, both contending for top position as they exchanged blows. Rushing down after them, she watched as Derrick threw Little Red back. She landed against a tree, nearly cracking it in half from the sheer force.
“Yes! It’s why I was holding her at the point of my silver
shovel. I’ve been struggling for months to keep her under control.”
“Wow. Little Red inflicted with the werewolf curse? That’s a
new one,” Mike said. “How exactly are we supposed to correct that?”
“There’s only one way to reverse a werewolf’s curse,” Derrick said, “Kill the wolf that bit her.”
“How have you been tracking him?” Victoria inquired.
“With good old fashioned hunting skills. Why? Do you know of
another way?”
“I might. If you have something of his; clothing, an item
perhaps? Or even a trace of his blood.”
“How about a tuft of his fur?” she asked, motioning toward an old fence. “The night I ran him off, not realizing at the time what he’d done, he caught himself on the barbed wire.”
Derrick, using his speed and strength, fought the wolf as
the others waited for him to bring it into the designated kill zone. Once the
target was in range, Victoria cast a containment spell, ensuring the beast
couldn’t run off and hide like before. Meanwhile, Mike expertly threw his
silver weapons toward the monster, slicing and cutting into him, weakening him
more and more for Derrick’s attacks.
When the creature finally fell, the old woman moved in for
the killing blow, “This is for Red!” she angrily proclaimed before removing its
head with a single blow of her silver ax. Using some of his blood, Victoria
created a potion to cure Little Red of her affliction.
“Thank you,” Red said, shaking Derrick’s hand before running
into her grandmother’s awaiting arms. “I really appreciate all of your help!”
“Yes, thank you for helping save my granddaughter,” the old woman parroted, hugging her granddaughter tightly.
“Prince Henry has imprisoned Princess Rana and taken over
the kingdom,” Ziggy explained. “After she saved him from his curse and revealed
his true nature, they were set to be wed. The day of their wedding is when Kron
first appeared. After the couple said their vows, the chaos demon changed the
frog’s green skin into green everything. He was beset by envy and greed and
completely overthrew Rana’s kingdom.”
“Is that a unicorn?” Aria asked excitedly. “It’s so
beautiful!”
“Yes. Keep your distance,” Ziggy said in a cautionary tone. “Unicorn are notoriously fearsome creatures.”
“What’s wrong with him?” Victoria asked.
“What do you mean?” Ziggy asked.
“The light around him; it’s…weird.”
“Light?” Derrick asked, looking toward the direction she
stared. “What light?”
“I guess you’d call it an aura. It looks—strange.” Ignoring
Ziggy’s warning, Victoria started toward the mythical creature. It showed no
sign of aggression as she reached a hand out toward it. And as her fingers
grazed its nose, the light she’d seen swirling around the stallion took the
shape of a man.
“ARISTO!” Ziggy shouted.
“Why? What happened? Where are you?” Victoria asked.
“I’ve been locked in a large cage beneath Serenity Falls.
I’m being held by…”
“Kron?” Derrick asked, completing the man’s sentence.
“YES! The evil chaos demon has trapped me here and is
feeding off my magical energy. Please, you’ve got to get me out of here.”
“We’re on the way,” Victoria said.
Serenity Falls lived up to its name; if not for the underlying fact there was a chaos demon living just beneath its gorgeous and peaceful façade. “Mike, Aria, you two have been great help so far, but this demon is something different. I wouldn’t feel comfortable bringing you into that kind of danger.”
“Just…be careful.”
“Yes, mother.”
“I mean it, Mikey.”
“I know you do, Vik. And I’ll be careful,” he smiled
sincerely.
“Our main goal is rescuing Aristo, for now. We still don’t know how to defeat Kron without magic and its best if we try and avoid combat. Are we understood?” Victoria asked to which everyone agreed. “Good. Stay close, stay vigilant and be careful.”
No sooner than he spoke the last word, the sound of locks shuttering filled the air. They hadn’t anticipated once they’d entered, they’d be unable to leave again. A spelled wall closed down around them and then they heard a dark, guttural laugh echoing. “You fools really thought it would be that easy?”
Nose wrinkling, Victoria leaned back from the stink. Her
stomach tightened. This was a trap. With deliberate care, she looked over the
faces of her friends. She should have known better; should have seen this
coming. Cornered in the dark, cramped cavern, Victoria prepared to put her
abilities to use. Kron showed no inclination for mercy. His physically imposing
form filled the space with palpable menace.
Victoria weighed her options. She could go against the odds and use her magic, hopefully buying enough time for her friends to free the wizard and escape before Kron got the better of her. Or, she could try and the physical route, one she was sure would mean death. Kron was a large being clothed in garments covered in what was no doubt the spoils of his kills. There was no way she would win in a battle of strength.
Swiftly, Derrick moved in front of Victoria, taking the
brunt of the impact before countering with a blow of his own. It caught the
beast flush and Derrick hurled him into the ground with such force that a cloud
of dust arose. Derrick growled and began pummeling the monster. As Aria and
Mike moved to unlock the binds securing Aristo in his cage, Victoria began working
on bringing the spells down that sealed them inside.
The last of the spelled locks fell with a click. Victoria once again turned her attention to Kron in time to see him lift Derrick over his head and launch him toward the other side of the cave. He hit the jagged mountain wall with a crunch.
“DERRICK!” Victoria shouted, watching his body fall limply
to the cave floor. As she dropped to his side, she could see blood seeping out
from a wound in his chest. “Derrick?” He groaned as she shook him, his eyes
opening briefly as he fought to sit up.
She heard Kron laugh behind her and felt a fire stir within. “Who’s next?” he taunted.
Pressing her wrist against Derrick’s fang, she allowed a generous amount of her blood to pour into his mouth before climbing to her feet.
“Then I hope you have room for this,” she quipped. Shoving her hands forward, blue and red flames raced toward the monster sending him crashing into the cave wall. Derrick was finally on his feet and watched as Victoria devoted every ounce of energy she could toward destroying the beast. The heat of the power that radiated from her felt like standing too close to a firepit. Her entire body vibrated as she produced a bolt of magic so potent it left char marks creeping up her arms. Derrick could sense no measure of restraint and watched as her eyes sparked with determination and she began hovering just above the ground.
“Victoria?”
Too far gone to hear him, Victoria focused on her goal, her Lifeblood passing through her body through the magic she released. Bright fire rose around her as the mountain began to shake and a bright red aura enveloped her, one made of a force Derrick didn’t know still existed. “Dragon’s flame…” he whispered, backing away and motioning for the others to move with him.
“I’m fine, I’m fine,” she said, waving him off. “Did we get
him?”
“Yeah,” he sighed, checking her over for injuries. “Yeah, Victoria. We got him. You were magnificent.” Smiling up at him, she pulled him closer and quickly pressed a kiss into his lips. Looking over at the others, she found Aristo staggering away from the explosion site and Aria and Mike chasing him down as she and Derrick started over.
“Witch,” Victoria replied to a bewildered Aristo.
“Dragon.”
“What? No, just a witch,” she said behind a watery laugh. Aristo
glanced at Derrick, shook his head and wiped a hand across his brow. “How long
were you being held in there?”
“Seven months,” he said, the blank expression finally
melting into a look of genuine gratitude. “Thank you, you have no idea how many
ways I’ve been trying to escape.”
“Well, it’s over now,” Victoria said, “Come on, we should get you home. I’m sure Callon is anxiously awaiting an update.”
“Back?”
“From your quest.”
“No, Callon. I was never on a quest. I was captured by that
chaos demon.”
“He held him prisoner and was using him as a battery of
sorts. That’s why none of the magic any of you tried ever worked,” Victoria
said, filling in the blanks.
“No. Oh, I cannot believe it. All this time, Aristo, you
were a prisoner?” Callon huffed with a saddened expression on his face. “Had I
known…”
“It’s not your fault, Callon,” Aristo said, returning his friend’s hug. “Kron proved a mighty foe. Every communication I tried sending out, he disrupted. Every attempt I made to escape, he thwarted.”
“You and me both.” Aristo leaned forward and whispered
something in Callon’s ear that made his eyes go wide and he looked over at
Victoria. His surprised expression melted into a smile and he nodded his head.
“And we have you four to thank for this!” Callon said, stepping
in front of Victoria. “Thank you. Thank you so much for everything. I cannot
say that enough!” Callon said, placing a gentle kiss on Victoria’s hand as
other members of the fair folk tribunal celebrated with Derrick, Mike and Aria.
“Aristo tells me he has not seen the likes of your magic in centuries!”
“Well, I don’t know about that but I am happy we were able
to put a stop to Kron’s influence,” Victoria replied modestly.
“Yes,” Callon nodded. “You’ve done us all a great service.
You and your friends are welcomed back any time! But, of course, under much
better circumstances.”
“Thank you, Callon. It was our pleasure.”
As they exited the castle, they were greeted by the fable characters they’d saved. The three pigs, Goldilocks, the Frog Prince and his princess, Little Red and even the Pied Piper who’d not been able to rest for the ceaseless droves of rodents invading the streets. With the aid of the other fair folk, Ziggy teleported the group back to the beach in Suvadiva.
Derrick and Victoria splashed and swam for over an hour
before she finally started to tire. Pulling her into his arms in the crest of
another wave, he pressed his lips into hers, locking her against him. Victoria
moaned. His kiss was ferocious at first, needing, wanting; his lips exploring, his tongue dancing with hers. Her hot mouth curved to the shape of his and
she held the back of his head as they kissed with fevered passion. “Wow,”
Victoria sighed, when they finally pulled apart. “It’s a good thing we’re still
in the water. All that heat could melt a lady.”
Derrick’s head fell back in a light chuckle and he leaned forward, placing a sweet kiss on her cheek. “How about I get us some drinks then and we take a break from the sun?”
“You two seem to really be enjoying each other,” Mike grinned, making a deep blush appear on Victoria’s face. “I thought for a second there I was gonna have to come and hose you down.”
Victoria laughed and shook her head at her partner. “I can’t
deny it. Whenever I’m around him, I find it hard keeping my hands to myself.”
“I know what you mean,” Mike said, watching Aria walking
solo along the beach looking for more souvenir shells. “I think I’m ready.”
“You’re right, Vik. I don’t know what the hell I’ve been
waiting for.” Downing the last of his drink, Mike quickly hopped up from his
seat and started down the beach toward Aria.
“Here we are,” Derrick announced, placing Victoria’s drink
on the table in front of her. “What’d I miss?”
“Mike,” she gave a girlish giggle and grabbed her phone. “He’s doing it.”
From their seats in the cabana, they watched as Mike got
Aria’s attention. After speaking a few words, he dropped down to the sand beside
her. She turned toward him and her hand shot to her heart when Mike retrieved a
ring box from behind his back.
A few more words were exchanged and Aria nodded her head enthusiastically before hopping into Mike’s lap and pressing their lips together. “What do you think her answer is?” Derrick joked, watching the happy couple making out on the beach.
Derrick watched the look on Victoria’s face and it made a
large smile form on his own. “What do you say we get out of here and give the
happy couple some alone time.”
“I say that’s a great idea, Mr. Constantine.” After getting Mike’s attention, Victoria let him know she and Derrick were leaving and the pair started toward their private bungalow.
“All set!” Victoria sighed as she finished packing her luggage and placed the bags near the door.
“You forgot one,” Derrick said, handing Victoria a large item, beautifully wrapped in shiny, gold paper and tied with a white bow. “Merry Christmas.”
“Derrick! What’s this?”
“What? You didn’t think I’d let Christmas pass without actually
getting you a gift?”
“Well yes! It’s what we agreed on. Besides, I thought this
was my gift,” she said, motioning around at their surroundings.
“No, this was my attempt to get you away from work; that didn’t
quite work out so well.”
With a smile, Victoria unwrapped the object and gasped in surprise. It was a sculpted marble heart formed from two swans kissing. “Derrick, is this what you were working on in your studio?”
“It is. Do you like it?”
“I love it!” she replied, inspecting the statue, her awe
increasing as she noticed all of the intricate details and designs he’d painstaking
etched into the marble. “You know, swans mate for life.”
“I do know that,” he replied, the smile on his face widening.
“Well, I think it’s amazing! But now I feel bad, I thought we agreed to not exchange gifts. I didn’t get you anything.”
“Victoria, with you, I have all I’ll ever need.”
“But…” Leaning forward, Derrick silenced Victoria with a kiss,
pressing his lips tightly against hers, he smiled when she moaned into him.
“I promise,” he whispered against her mouth.
“Well, there’s still quite a bit of exploring we can do,”
Derrick said, moving behind her and gently whispering in her ear.
“Oh yeah? Like what?” Victoria asked, feeling his lips
tickle down her cheek toward her jaw.
“Mmm, we can go for a late-night skinny dip, or have a dirty
roll on the beach, or take advantage of the hot tub.” As he spoke, his mouth closed
over her jugular and he sucked, leaving a quarter-sized hickey.
“Mmm, all of that sounds great. Do I really have to choose just one?” she asked, feeling his hands trail a slow path up her body. Derrick chuckled in her ear before claiming her lips with his own.
“Yeah,” she whispered, already knowing what he was going to
say. “Hot tub; it’s closer.” Again, he laughed. She knew him so well.
“I’ll get the water ready. See you in five.” Pulling away, he exited out the back terrace to turn on the hot tub and set the temperature. Once it reached the perfect conditions, he quickly undressed and slipped inside. “It’s good. Don’t keep me waiting,” he called in to her.
“And it’s about to get even better,” he said, moving quickly to bring her into his arms. Before Victoria could retort, he had his mouth pressed against her, kissing her and lighting her entire body on fire as he moved between her legs. “You are so beautiful,” Derrick sighed as he lifted his mouth toward her chest and took a nipple between his teeth. Victoria gasped when his tongue swirled the tip before he strongly sucked.
He could smell her desire and roughly pushed one, then two and
then three fingers into her slickness. “YES!” Victoria wailed, her body falling
against the tub wall as she felt his hand thrust deep. Leaning forward, his mouth
moved to her sensitive bud, the double burst of ecstasy tore a shout from her as
his tongue seared over her flesh. Derrick found her most sensitive spots with ferocious
accuracy, making her hips twist and shudder at the erotic barrage.
Victoria arched upward, desperate for more and another whimper escaped her throat. Derrick smiled, feeling her thrashing beneath him. Shoving his fingers faster, he heightened sensations that made inner bands convulsively tighten within her. It only took one more lick before she came undone with a scream that echoed around them. “I want you, Derrick!” she begged, breathlessly.
Keeping her eyes on him, she slipped lower into the water
and turned his back to the jet. Derrick watched as she lowered her mouth toward
his shaft and released a deep moan when he felt her warm lips close over him. “Fuck,
Victoria.” She smiled inwardly listening to his sighs of desire and guided his
length further into her throat, the taste of precum sending shudders of
pleasure between her legs. “Damn. You are so good at this.”
Victoria slid her tongue over a large, pulsing vein before slowly enveloping him into her parted lips once more. Derrick’s head fell back as she began working him faster, moaning over his cock as it plunged down her throat and rolling her tongue around the tip as it emerged. “Mmm, yeah, Baby. That’s it.” He grunted, pounding in and out of her esophagus and listening to her moan like a bitch in heat. Looking down with a smile, Derrick brought Victoria’s gaze to his with a gentle finger under her chin.
“You fucking know it, Baby,” he growled, pulling her into
his lap. Victoria hovered above his shaft. When he made a primal, impatient
noise, she slowly sank down onto him and welcomed the thrust that filled her
with the sharpest kind of rapture. “Fuck!” he gritted between clenched teeth
before grabbing her hips and driving himself inside to her hilt. She groaned
deep in her throat, her eyes closing in euphoria as she felt him fill her up.
Placing one hand on each of his shoulders, Victoria used the
back of the hot tub for support as she bounced on his thick cock. “God, I love
how big you feel inside me.”
They moaned together and her breath quickened as she sped up her movements. Derrick’s hands moved to her thighs and he aided her with hard, deep thrusts of his own. “Ah, fuck! Derrick!” she cried out as he slammed her body down onto his over and over sending them both into ecstasy.
“That’s it, Victoria. Come for me!” he growled, dropping his mouth to her throat. She felt his fangs lengthen against her soft skin and raked her hands through his hair. His bite was swift and he moaned in her ear with every sip he drank from her vein.
His grip had been tight before but now it became bruising. His new roughness only made the pleasure more intense and she gave herself over to it, expressing it through the scoring of her nails down his back. Her moaning grew incredibly loud as the intense sensations returned. Victoria swayed faster as Derrick pistoned himself inside her. Gripping her thighs, he pulled her down in such a way that caused the head of his cock to press against her cervix and rub her sensitive g-spot. She pressed her hands tighter on his shoulders, her nails digging into him as their rhythm increased and her moans became desperate.
“Yes! I’m yours completely, Derrick; heart, body and soul. I love you,” she cried as delicious tingles rocketed through her with another burst of mind-numbing bliss. Derrick’s name left her lips again and again as she rode her wave of carnal desire. Grinding her hips faster, Victoria savored every second of his cock driving deeper into her and she cried out wildly as her orgasm caused her to tremble and shake.
He let out a groan that sounded like an incredible sigh of relief as his hips pummeled her. Victoria reached her hand back and grasped his ass, bringing him harder against her. He got the hint and she felt his lips on the back of her neck as he picked up speed. Their bodies slapped together faster and harder, splashing the warm water from the tub onto the ground outside. Heat built in her core as his thrusting became more frenzied. “Oh, God.” Derrick powered into her, slamming his hips deeper and deeper. Victoria’s orgasm took her by surprise.
He moved his hand to cup her breast and Victoria let out a deep moan when he squeezed her nipples. “Christ, I fucking love the sounds you make,” he grunted. She lifted her hips to meet him, begging for more. His hips moved faster and he felt her insides clench around him. “Fuck!” His hoarse whisper caressed her neck as she tightened against him again. He slammed into her one last time and she cried out as he came inside her with a roar, his body shaking with ecstasy as he spilled his seed into her.
As Victoria struggled to catch her breath, Derrick gripped
her tighter in his arms and held her against him, feeling her chest heaving
from the intensity of their love-making. “That was fucking amazing,” she
mumbled, wrapping her arms around his neck and pulling him in for a kiss. “I
think we need to buy one of these for our home.”
Hearing her use the phrase ‘our home’ made an unexpected
feeling of pride bloom inside him and he held her close as he placed a loving
kiss on her lips. “Absolutely. We can modify the gazebo. It’ll be perfect.”
“Perfect. I love you, Derrick.”
“I love you too, Victoria.”
