“Who’s a vampire gotta kill to get a bloody drink around
here?” A tall, blonde haired man standing beside Victoria growled in a thick
English accent as he turned and rested against the bar. Leaning towards her she
could see the ice blue chill of his eyes and the fangs that stuck prominently
from either side of his jaw as he smiled seductively at her.

38: Truth and Consequence – Pt. 2
“What the hell are you doing here?” Cole growled as he
opened his front door to find Derrick standing in the hallway. “Get lost before
I stake you.”
Derrick smiled sinisterly and inched closer towards the
threshold causing Cole to take one step back from the door. “Been reading up
have we? Preparing for a war Cole? Because trust me when I say I’m decidedly
better armed for whatever it is you think you can do to me but I didn’t come
here looking for a fight. I came on Victoria’s behalf; she needs you.”

37: Truth and Consequence – Pt. 1
“Hey,” Derrick smiled as Victoria opened the door to let him
inside. “I got your message, sorry I didn’t get here sooner but I had to make a
pit stop.” His fingers tapped lightly on the top of a box he was holding as he
made his way towards her living room.
“It’s ok I was just going over some of the evidence from the
last few crime scenes hoping to see some sort of connection. Nothing’s jumped
out at me yet though. You look nice tonight. New coat? Did I cut your date
short or something?”
“Date, right. No not at all, Victoria. I’m not sure if you’ve
noticed this or not but it’s sort of snowing outside.”
“Oh trust me I’ve noticed and I’m hoping it doesn’t stick. It was freezing in here too and I don’t care for a white Christmas. I
wasn’t aware that you felt the cold though; given that you’re body temperature
is oh, dead. As for me, I was about to just give up on this thing and go
upstairs to my blanket.”
“Mmm was that an invitation?”

36: The Unlikely Duo – Pt. 3
“Derrick! What are you doing here?” Victoria asked in a
whisper trying her best to close the front door behind her.
“Uh, I thought you could use some help talking to your Mom.”
“What? No I don’t need help at all actually I can handle my
Mom. You need to get out of here, now.”
“What? I specifically said ‘no, Derrick, you aren’t invited’.”
“Ah, I thought you meant on the ride up, so I flew,” he smirked teasingly.

35: The Unlikely Duo – Pt. 2
Victoria waited near the jeep as Derrick headed inside the
gate. The sun was starting to set and she had a sudden feeling of being
watched. Pushing off of her truck, she paced a little around the trunk looking
over the cars parked in the lot around her. With the exception of the traffic
moving over the freeway nearby, all was quiet. She shook off the sense of dread
and sighed heavily, glancing at the clock on the town hall tower a few blocks
away. “Come on, Derrick. How long is this gonna take.”

34: The Unlikely Duo – Pt. 1
“Hey, Vik, someone’s here to see you,” Lou yelled from the
bullpen towards the lounge. It was another hectic day at work and the precinct
was a flurry of activity. Police officers dressed in their blues milled about
shuffling papers back and forth to different departments as several
conversations shot off in every corner of the building concerning one case or
another.
With twenty-one active homicides and another three
aggregated from burglary, the detective’s bureau was stretched pretty thin.
Victoria had been working longer nights, some shifts totaling 48 hours without
breaks and she was doing all she could to stay on her feet and get her desk
cleared but it wasn’t easy. Between the gallons of coffee and tea she consumed
she had about a dozen witness testimonies to sift through and a handful of
interrogations to conduct.

33: I Fall to Pieces – Pt. 3
“What the hell are you doing here?” Victoria asked taking Jake’s arm and quickly leading him into her garage away from possible prying eyes. “Are you crazy? Why would you come here?”
“Derrick asked me to check on you so I came. Why? What’s wrong?”
“What’s wrong? Jake! You’re dead! How do you think it looks for a dead man to suddenly show up at the doorstep of the detective who investigated his murder? What the hell was Derrick thinking asking that of you? I can’t have you here! You can’t just up and walk into my driveway whenever you want!”

32: I Fall to Pieces – Pt. 2
“What’s this?” Derrick growled as Perry dropped a stack of papers in front of him.
“It’s inventory from last night’s restock and sales report
for the last week.”
“I didn’t ask for this, I only wanted the morning paper.”
“Why? So you can see what that detective is up to? Planning
on stalking more crime scenes in hopes of catching a glimpse of her?” Perry
asked as he started for the door.

31: I Fall to Pieces – Pt. 1
“I’m walking out my door as we speak,” Victoria spoke into
the microphone of her earpiece as she juggled her bags and an evidence box in
her hands and opened her front door to find Cole standing on her stoop with a
smile. “Uh Mike, I’ll see ya when I get to work alright? Cole!”
“Hey!” he grabbed the box from her hands and started towards
her car with her.
“Hey! It’s been a while since you’ve dropped by. How are
you?”
